The romanticist romanticized: Zhukovsky's «Svetlana» and Mangan's «Eve of St. Silvester»

The present paper describes the translation of Zhukovsky's «Svetlana» into the English language. The attention is drawn to the perception of the ballad by the Irish translator, text transformations and employed images, which reveal that the ballad has been reverted to its German domain
