Main issues of article structuring of the Russian-English educational frame dictionary
The idea of The Russian-English Educational Frame Dictionaryis based on the following principles: lexical units are presented within definite topics: Trading, Education and Science, Religion,Arts and culture, Food: cooking and eating, and so on; the basic operational unit of the Dictionary is situation family ofcognate words, which deals with the lexical-semantic variants of the words; lexical-semantic variants of cognate words are organized inframes according to their functional roles performed by the referents in real world; correlated Russian and English frames are explainedand illustrated with the help of proverbs, fine literature abstracts, etymology and history dictionaries references. The article considers thetheoretic foundations of frame-propositional organization of the semantic structure of a complex unit of a word-formation languagelevel: necessary conditions for the situation formation within the limits of a frame, the semantic function of an adverb and an adjectivewithin proposition. The article continues to develop the theory of the situation family of cognate words alongside the existing theories ofword-formation and lexical families of cognate words. Situation family of cognate words reflects the prototype knowledge significantfor the speaker represented in his/her mind by mental structures of proposition and frame and correlated to the reality of the perceivedworld. The structured situations analysed in the article within the topic Food: cooking and eating present the restored experience of ahuman on perception of this reality fragment with naming of the significant components of this event: the doer of the action (S), theaction itself expressed by the verb (P), object of the undertaken action (O), instrument with the help of which the action is performed (I),process of the action expressed through the noun (R0), result or purpose of the action (R), location or place of the action (L) and time ortemporal interval of the action (T). The following terms are considered: the core of the situation family of cognate words, cognate unit,and metalanguage non-cognate unit. The advantages of the offered Russian-English Educational Frame Dictionary are the following:situation model of presentation of lexical units (meanings and concepts) contributes to easier and better storing of new information asproposition being the basic way of thinking activity of a human being is the scheme of the offered situation model; situation model allowsdefining syntactic functioning of cognate words and their correct usage in speech composing; frame presentation of lexical unitsserves to the better understanding of cultural peculiarities of the studied language as it shows the significant and important aspects of theactivity described explicitly. At the structuring of the Dictionary word entry a number of problems arise, which demand their furtherdeveloping: lack of correspondence of Russian and English spheres of the described events of human activity: excessive number offrames in one case (English frames BREAKFAST, BRUNCH, LUNCH vs. Russian frame ЗАВТРАК) and lack of frames in the othercase (Russian frame ПОЛДНИК vs. English frame -; Russian frame - vs. English frame MEAL); different interpretations of the consideredevents in history and explanatory dictionaries that prevent from clear perception picture developing; complexity of structuring ofsituations, specification of separate topics within frames. Possible ways of solution of the stated problems are calling of more scientiststo the work of collecting and verification of material, enlargement of consulting literature sources.
