The Legal Basis of Using Occupational Therapy in the Execution of Compulsory Measures of a Medical Nature
The article considers the legal regulation of the use of occupational therapy in relation to persons under compulsory treatment in a psychiatric hospital. The analysis of legal acts issued from the mid-twentieth century to the present shows several organizational forms of occupational therapy; the main one is based on occupational therapy workshops. On the basis of the study the author has conducted, it is concluded that at the present stage the legal regulation of the involvement of the mentally ill in work has reduced. The nature of the activities of occupational therapy workshops has changed: their economic independence has been replaced by their complete subordination to the medical institution. These changes make it necessary to supplement the existing Rules on the Organization of Occupational Therapy Workshops with legal norms regulating the very process of involving the mentally ill in work (the procedure for involving in work, creating and ensuring safe working conditions, types of work suitable for occupational therapy, etc.).
