International Conference "Domestic Violence: Prevention and Responsibility"

On April 27, 2019, the Law Institute of the National Research Tomsk State University held the International Conference "Domestic Violence: Prevention and Responsibility", focused on the transdisciplinary discussion of the socio-philosophical, legal, psychological, pedagogical, and medical aspects of domestic violence. The conference attracted legal scholars, philosophers, sociologists, representatives of state bodies and institutions, NGOs, international experts, who emphasised the complex and interdisciplinary nature of domestic violence issues to be discussed by scientists and practitioners of completely different specialties and profiles. The attendees recognised the need for explanatory work among medical and social employees, who misread domestic violence as a private problem, and proposed a wider use of mediation as a possible resource to overcome this type of violence. In addition, they highlighted the specificity of the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women in the Russian Federation as well as the impact of the state policy on the status of women in society in terms of domestic violence.
