Books of baroness N.M. Stroganov in the library of the Tomsk State University: problems identificational and study

The article deals with the problem of studying of Stroganov book collection in Tomsk. The focus is the identification and study books with bookplates Baroness N.M. Stroganov (1745-1819), their true and false attribution. Baroness Natalia M. Stroganov was a second wife of Baron Sergei N. Stroganoff (1738-1771), paternal uncle of Gregory A. Stroganoff (1770-1857). She is known as the author of the "Diary" written in French during a trip abroad in 1780-1782. The manuscript of "Diary" came to Tomsk with the Stroganov book collection and there is currently. Selection of books Baroness Stro-ganov was based on the owners' attributes. Problems encountered when working to identify them as follows: variety of bookplates; their false attribution of some authors; dispersal throughout the array twenty thousand book collection. Lack possessory catalogue or inventory gives no indication of any of the quantitative side of her library or on the composition. Baroness Stroganov had two bookplates, one super-ex-libris and heraldic seal (stamp). This stamp (seal) is based on the arm barons Stroganoff, and it means that with equal probability, it could belong to any of them. However, the "Paris almanac for 1782» (Almanach de Paris pour l'annee 1782) with a seal (stamp), undoubtedly, could belong only to the baroness Stroganov, because on fly-leafs at the beginning and at the end of the book there are entries in pencil: names Parisian acquaintances of Natalia Nikolaievna. Total found 22 books with such a seal, and most of them are purchased for son Alexander. Bookplate (ex-libris) on the basis of heraldic seal with the inscription inside the oval "BN Stro-gonoff" (Baronne Natalie Strogonoff) during long time associated with the name of Baron Nikolai G. Stroganoff (1706-1758). Books identified in Tomsk prove the falsity of this attribution. Chronological coverage on the library Baroness Stroganov's is from 1711 to 1787. The Gap in thirty years (Natalia died in February 1819) suggest here that only part of her books: in Tomsk. Currently there is no information about the quantity and the location of other books, except for one, located in Nizhny Novgorod.
