Training course «Librarianship of Tomsk region» as a regional component in the education of library staff

The modern public library is an important participant in the socio-cultural activities of the region. It provides access to knowledge and information to the all members of the local community; it helps to meet the needs in the fields of education, professional activities, leisure and personal development. Rural libraries play an important role in social and cultural life of the region, they are involved in the formation of cultural and historical awareness of the local community, and they organize a meaningful leisure of citizens, contributing to the development of their creative abilities, attaching people to the cultural heritage. Library sphere of Tomsk Oblast needs for specialists possessing theoretical and practical skills in the field of modern rural library activity. To implement this task elective course «Library Studies of Tomsk Oblast» was included in the educational program of Library and Information Work Chair. This course involves both theoretical and practical training of modern librarians. Course focuses on developing students either holistic view of the current state of the sphere of culture in Tomsk Oblast, or concepts about the features of library activities of different types and species, in particular -of municipal rural libraries. In the process of mastering the course it is planned to study the socio-cultural environment that is external to the rural library, but will affect the implementation of the basic activities of library and information needs of the formation of readers, as well as consideration of the particular experience of the libraries of various areas of Tomsk Oblast. The most important requirement is knowledge of basic legal documents regulating the activities in the field of culture. Also in the learning process, students are introduced to a variety of source base: statistical materials, organizational, planning, reporting and analytical documents of rural libraries of Tomsk Oblast, publications of regional periodicals. The study of the course occurs either using traditional educational technologies, including lectures, seminars, practical and laboratory classes, or incorporates elements of modern educational activities: classes in the form of mini-conferences, making presentations on a given topic, work in small groups. Thus, as a result of the study course «Library Studies of Tomsk Oblast» students of the chair of library and information work acquire skills like organizational, methodical monitoring, analytical, making management decisions, and planning of activities in municipal rural libraries.
