The evolution of folklore theater in the context of postmodernism
This article embarks on an in-depth exploration of the intricate transformation that folklore theater has experienced in the landscape of postmodernism, casting a spotlight on the sophisticated interplay between enduring traditional elements and cutting-edge innovative practices. Within the ever-evolving context of postmodernism, characterized by the increasingly indistinct boundaries between the past and present, as well as between hallowed tradition and bold innovation, the continuous evolution of folklore theater is painted as a dynamic journey of adaptation, re-interpretation, and revitalization. The author thoroughly examines how the deliberate incorporation of seminal postmodern ideas and avant-garde art practices acts as a catalyst for a profound metamorphosis, affecting the very form and content of folklore performances. This evolution, steeped in the need to address and resonate with the pressing challenges of the contemporary era-including the pervasive effects of globalization and the relentless advance of digital technologies-serves a dual purpose. By artfully intertwining theoretical perspectives with tangible examples from the field, the article asserts that the ongoing dialogue between the venerable past and the vibrant present within the domain of folklore theater not only breathes new life into traditional narratives but also paves the way for innovative creative experimentation and deeper cultural introspection. This discourse is further enriched by the exploration of how contemporary folklore theater acts as a fertile ground for experimenting with narratives, character archetypes, and performance styles, effectively blurring the lines between performer and audience, reality and myth, thus fostering a participative cultural experience that is both immersive and reflective. The author declares no conflicts of interests.
