Metamorphosis in the “rugs” of Faik Ahmed
In this article, the author explored new ideas and embodiments of the artist Faik Akhmed’s compositions using carpets as an example. He has participated in international, foreign and personal exhibitions. These carpets are interesting for their color combinations and the artist’s new experience of perception in 2D and 3D projections. His carpets have gained great fame and popularity in foreign countries, are purchased by private collectors and adorn museum exhibitions around the world. His new thinking in the implementation of oriental carpets has caused various opinions, criticism and approval from journalists, art critics and art lovers. The author of the article examined the artist's carpets based on the study of scientific materials about his work and the technologies he used in traditional Azerbaijani carpet weaving, the general principles of carpet composition in art history, and the method of cultural interpretation. Two- or three-dimensional images of applied art objects have become a new vision for modern artists who are passionate about this. The transmission of three-dimensionality of images is achieved as a result of numerous searches in the creative process. The article notes the uniqueness of the new worldview and perception in the objects of oriental carpets, textiles and sculpture by Faik Akhmed. The author explored its novelty in the creative process, style, art objects and, above all, in carpets. Traditional motifs and patterns characteristic of Azerbaijani carpets sometimes appear in the artist's works, sometimes disappear. This is due to the symbols that were introduced by him and changed in accordance with the configuration of the carpet. His works are not simple in meaning, rather deeply philosophical, these are not just carpets, they need to be able to be read and looked at as paintings. The author explored the use of a variety of oriental carpet weaving techniques in the artist’s compositions, including Turkish, Indian, Persian and Caucasian. The article explores the artist's passion for the exact sciences, or more precisely, quantum physics, which helped him in finding new carpet solutions. For eastern people, the “carpet” was of great importance and application, since it carried certain information from generation to generation, ciphers and codes, and became a talisman and a kind of portal to another world, which is substantiated in the article. Faik Ahmed’s carpets are visually stimulating. Many critics judge his works as psychedelic, grotesque and absurd, because such a new transformation is not typical of old carpets. However, his carpets have changed their genetics with the help of computer technology and have been modified with new elements, in particular, parabolic shapes and color changes, which the author of the article has researched and discussed. The author declares no conflicts of interests.
