Cardinal Francisco Ximenez de Cisneros as the founder of the university in alcala de henares (to studying of a series of portraits of outstanding spaniards from Stroganov's book collection)

The role of the outstanding Spanish historical figure of cardinal Cisneros in the creation of Alcala de Henares University, one of three XVI century largest in Castile, is considered. Reformatory undertakings of Cisneros in the field of training and education of the Spanish clergy are analyzed as one of the multidimensional activity directions of the archbishop of Toledo, the politician, the statesman, Isabella of Castile's confessor. The course of cardinal's life and his successful university project are shown in a context of research of a series of portraits of outstanding Spaniards in a collection of graphic works in Stroganoffs library.
