Sacred architecture as a means of visual communication

The article describes the semiotic function of sacred architecture. Sacred building (temple) is a specific visual-semiotic unit, retaining basic religious and cultural content. The concept of "sacred space" that is carried from the temple to the city, translates local historical meanings and associated with these visual markers on a habitable environment in general. The methods architectural design of the sacred topos in our culture, for example, the most important sacred buildings are studied in this article. Identified three paradigm of semiotic transfer of sacred values: moving ideas, the transfer of the image and copying. The symbolic transfer of sacred meanings embodied by architectural means and forming a special communicative cultural environment, often accompanied by attempts to direct copy of the initial samples. The most well-known and studied case of such "reproduction" of the historical prototype is the creation of the New Jerusalem Monastery near Moscow. Two culturally significant ideas were expressed in this project: visual separation of the holy city (monastery) from the earthly city (political capital), the transfer of the holy place by its direct copying.
