An interdepartmental partnership of book monuments' custodians in Perm Territory

Formation of modern big archives with book monuments in Perm Territory reflects general processes which are common for the majority of provincial museums and libraries. Rare and valuable book's collections of the past were sent to different archives of different departments because of social convulsions of the XXth century. For a long time this condition had been complicating works with the book heritage of Perm Territory. Since 2001 Perm Territory began a program called «Book monuments of Perm Territory». It was aimed at detecting and scientific description of the Cyrillic and manuscripts in all archives in that territory regardless of departmental affiliation and territorial position. As the results there were catalogs of books Cyrillic print: «Cyrillic Publishing XVI-XVII centuries in the archives of Perm region» (Perm, 2003) and «Cyrillic editions of the XVIII century in the archives of Perm Territory» (Perm, 2008). This program stabilized contacts of book monuments' custodians from different organizations. In 2011 during the conference devoted to the 95th anniversary of Perm State University there was a decision to establish a Community of the book monuments' custodians in Perm Territory. It has been created to solve the problems related to the description and storage of rare books in the vaults of different departmental subordination (in libraries, museums, archives). Work of this Community (identifying funds, training seminars) prepared an establishment of a Regional center «Book Monuments of Perm Territory». The center was established October 12, 2012 at Perm State Regional Library on the initiative of the Community. Establishment of a regional center opens new possibilities for collaboration of organizations of different departmental subordination during the work with book monuments and raises up this direction of saving culture heritage in Perm Territory on higher level.
