«There was a Russian Area...»: book in the CER right-of-way

In 2014, as part of International scientific and practical conference «Library in the field of cross-cultural communications», the regional center of the literary monuments of a Transbaikal Regional Universal Scientific Library named after Pushkin made a series of studies on intercultural communication in the librarian and informational sector. In particular, extensive material relating to the date of the 110th anniversary of the completion of construction work on the CER (Chinese Eastern Railway) is identified and examined. Introduction to the theme has long been in a non-priority, was the reason to the creation of the book collection, preserved traces of it stay on the territory of neighboring China. Separately were studied bookplates, stamp seal impressions, library labels, autographs, marginalia. Progressively the way a book came in a foreign land (which initially was not perceived such) is shaped. Changes in the political life of Russia through the books are clearly traced. Censorship indulgence caused by the events of 1905-1907., is influenced the work of publishers, including Harbin: readers acquainted with the Marxist literature, the works of Lenin and of the revolutionary movement in Russia. At the same time, readers enjoyed the famous "pavlenkovskaya 'series' Lives of Outstanding People'. Do not go unnoticed memorable 1812 and the 300th anniversary of the House of Romanov. Among other publishers are distinguished I.D. Sytin. Since the beginning of WWI, much has changed in the editorial policy of Russia and the Russian diasporas. The October Revolution of 1917 completed the situation: from Russia to Harbin gushing wave of immigrants; formed "white" movement with its literature. Books about the Events of the Civil War even further pushed Harbin from home, although the literature of the first years of Soviet power continued to arrive in shops and libraries. Published in a simple yellow-gray paper, books told about the successes in socialist construction. Over time, the flow of printed products from Russia began to decline, but in Harbin has successfully developed its own printing. There, in the late 20's and early 30-ies., by concentrating research effort and the emergence of various companies, it was issued a large number of serious works on history, economics, ethnography, agriculture, meteorology and other disciplines. Harbin became the center of oriental studies, aided by active work of the Orientalists Society and the Society of study of the Manchurian region. Most of these publications printed in the largest printing plant owned by CER. With the gradual disappearance of Russian settlements in Manchuria was gone and the Russian libraries, this amazing culture island, to create a special spiritual world in a foreign country that has become home to many of our compatriots. Searching of survive book treasures, almost half a century, which combined Russian and Chinese culture, continues, and perhaps lead to new discoveries.
