The French theater in Stroganov's book collection: handwritten catalogs as data source for study and description
In the article the problems of existence of French publications in Russia are considered on the example of the theater plays complex from the Stroganov's book collection in Tomsk. The book collection is universal in its composition. One of the richest in the collection is the section of belle-lettres literature, where the significant place take works for theatre, in whole their number is estimated as more than two thousand titles. The theatre collection was growing in its amount during the whole life of G.A. Stroganov (1770-1857), demonstrating undiminishing interest of the owner to the French theatre and the French literature. In the article there was made the generalization of the work with the theatre pays complex, which were bought by G.A. Stroganov in 30s-50s of the XIXth century. In the centre of attention there are the publishing activity of J.-N. Barba and his «Dramatic France in the XIXth century». The major project of the French publisher and book-seller Jean-Nicola Barba (17691846) represents the continued edition, united by the general task - to make theatre funs acquainted with texts of new plays, adapted for stage on the boards of the leading theatres of the capital starting from the beginning of the 30-s of the XIXth century. On the basis of knowledge, acquired after the description of all the issues, available in the Stroganov's library, more than three hundred authors (three hundred and thirty four) became «investors» of the «Dramatic France». Undoubted leader-author was Eugene Scribe. His name within the framework if this publishing project together with coauthors or separately appears more than eighty times. G.A. Stroganov has been getting issues of the «Dramatic France in the XIXth century» starting from the autumn of 1837; their total number estimates six hundred and fifty two exemplars. As far as in the available for the researcher Russian and foreign literature there was no information about this project of J.-N. Barba, the reference to handwritten owners' catalogues, as well as the work with the de visu collection became sources for replenishment of missing details in the question of distribution and existence of this edition in Russia.
