The process of formation of enterprise university. Apology of cultural mission of the university
The article analyzes the process of universities formation as an enterprise. That is interpreted as a threat to cultural mission of university. The article analyzes the enterprise model of University management in 21st century. University and Science have more value if they produce more "economically viable wealth". Knowledge becomes more valuable and is turned into the dominant form of wealth, into goods. The authors compare modern university model with classic one. Following the hermeneutical method, the modern epoch is presented as a period of economic mercantilism, while knowledge is interpreted as 'symbolic capital'. This capital is inexhaustible and accessible for users without limitations. In addition to that, the formation backgrounds of education market and open knowledge market are analyzed. The transformation of university structures is explored in the context of knowledge capitalization process. Knowledge is presented as innovative source. The university is analyzed in the context of commercial competition. Society has always functioned on the basis of knowledge but only in the second half of the 20th century, a merger of science and engineering appeared. It changed the main gist of technology. The interconnection between the modern university and technological transfer is realized with help of new organizational structures-contractual forms of activity. The complex of these structures is defined by the term «innovation zone», which means the final phase of the innovation cycle. The only and real long-term strategy of economic development should include major investment in university education and professional advancement. This will increase access to knowledge and absolute and relative supply level of skilled and educated workforce. Traditional training provides qualifications. A new education provides metaqualification, i.e. methodological and ideological system of skills as the basis for learning and generating new knowledge. Today universities generate and will continue to generate new industrial sectors (such as Silicon Valley or our domestic science cities). Therefore university education belongs to the most influential branches of modern industry. Thus education in cultural and methodological content expresses a sort of "industry knowledge". On the basis of analysis of the given sources, as well as the practical experience of renewal of modern university it's possible to conclude that in the context of "knowledge capitalism" universities become the means of competition for global leadership in high technologies. We conclude that intellectual horizons must be protected and expanded by universities. This is their traditional mission, which academic society will save, if it remains loyal to the great concept of human and human destiny under the conditions of technological progress domination over humanity.
