«Tatkino» as the first film organization of the Volga region

The 2016 year declared as the Year of Cinema in Russia. Everything connected with the history of Russian cinema is of undoubted interest. The history of Kazan cinema is part of the history of Russian cinema. So regional cinema history is unquestionable contribution to the history of our country cinema. The article indicates the characteristics of Kazan and Tatarstancinema. The 1920s were the times of the unstable political situation with frequent change of the Republic leaders. However, in February 1924 one of the first in the country and the first cinema organization in the Volga region started its work in Kazan. This cinema organization concentrated the film industry and film distribution of the young Tatar Republic in its hands. The authorized capital of "Tatkino" consisted of 25 thousand rubles. On the 13th of February, 1924 "Tatkino" officially started its activity. Priorities of its work were proclaimed in the Charter: "The Joint Stock Company "Tatkino" Tatar Cinema Association is established for the purpose of maintenance of cultural requests of workers, soldiers of the Red Army and peasants through the cinema". It was noted that the population of the Republic needed the films in the Tatar language. It was supposed to adjust newsreels shooting, unite film rental and cinematheatres operation all over Kazan and the Republic. It is noted that the State Committee for Cinematography applied to the State Planning Commission for 35 thousand meters of negative film purchase for shooting. Already in July, 1924 the first documentary filming was made. The highlight of the article concerns the production of the first full-length film. In 1926 work began on the co-production of "Bulat-Batyr" film. The article describes memoires of film participants. Also, the first feature-length documentary "Tatarstan. The country of four rivers" was created. Activity of "Tatkino" became the foundation for the further development of cinema in the Tatar Republic.
