Actors Theatre of Louisville - organizational and creative issues of activity

Appeal to the history of of the famous drama theatre of the United States - Actors Theatre of Louisville is caused by consideration of the development of one of the first regional theatres. Research of the artistic, creative and organisational activity of the company is considered as the evolution of the theatre in the pursuit of serving public goals. Actors Theatre of Louisville (ATL) in Kentucky State was founded in 1964 by the company founding directors Richard Block and Ewel Cornett. In 1969 the theater was led by a graduate of the Yale School of Drama, Jon Jory, who, turning to the popular repertoire, was able to attract a wide audience and get public support. Introduction to the organizational and creative activities of special social development programs helped the theater to receive significant financial support. The opening in 1972 of a new theater building helped expand the theatre's artistic program by opening new theatre halls. The article analyses creative and organizational activity of ATL. More than half a century of the theatre's history is full of creative projects how to grow from a tiny studio to a major regional theater in the country. Opening new American playwrights, holding the festivals, developing new stage venues, and the expansion of the audience show an important public and creative and socio-cultural role of the theatre. Reviewing the Spring Humana Festival, which plays a prominent role in the theatrical life of the United States, is shown as an element of the synthesis of artistic and managing tasks to develop attention to theatrical art and ATL. Special creative and educational programs of the festivals are explored in the context of drawing attention to modern drama as the most important element of the existence of the theater. On the example of ATL, the article analyses the role and significance of the regional drama theatres of the United States, which try to develop the traditions of the European theatre.
