800 anniversary of the Salamanca University: jubilee as scientific and sociocultural project

In 2018 the Salamanca University founded by Alphonse IX celebrates the 800-year anniversary. Together with Bologna, Parisian, and Oxford it belongs to number of the oldest universities of Europe. In 2008 Juan Carlos I founded Interinstitutional commission on the celebration of the 800 anniversary of the Salamanca University foundation, the constituent assembly took place in 2009 in Madrid. Representatives of the central government, administration of autonomous community Castile and Leon, Council of the province Salamanca, the mayor's office and university joined the commission. At the University in 2008/09 the Office of the 800 anniversary was created. In Philip VI's decree (2015) it was defined that "the celebration of the 800 anniversary of the University of Salamanca is considered as an event of exclusive state importance" and the Interinstitutional commission is created «under honorable presidency of their Majesties of the King and Queen». In 2016 the program of preparation for anniversary of the Salamanca University was structured in 5 main directions connected with consolidation of positions of "the University of Spanish", leadership of the university in the higher education, creation of the University of Innovative Development, preservation of heritage and infrastructure, advance of the university at the international level. The artist M. Barselo created a logo of the 800 anniversary, held the exhibition of his works devoted to celebration. In anniversary celebrations in Salamanca, 2018 became culmination. In January, 2018 holding until the end of the year 40 scientific actions with participation from 15 to 20 thousand scientists from around the world was planned. The program of cultural actions - concerts, exhibitions, theatrical performances was prepared. The film about drama events at the Salamanca University of the 16th century has been produced. In May under the motto "University, Society and Future" in Salamanca the IV International meeting of rectors took place to which more than 600 rectors arrived from many countries of the world. The royal mint on the occasion of 800-year anniversary of the Salamanca University stamped silver collectible coin on which the facade of the Salamanca University decorated in plateresco style is represented. Besides the state central, regional and municipal authorities, anniversary of Salamanca involved in common cause also representatives of the Spanish business. Many actions of promotion of the brand of the Salamanca University, including, by placement of images of the university and a logo of anniversary on trains, buses and plane were carried out. Today's university in Salamanca still remains one of significant in the university world; it dynamically develops and looks forward surely.
