“Catholic arch” in the spiritual works of Stravinsky

The focus of this article - especially the composer works on the model of the Catholic church on the example of the genre of the Mass and the Requiem I.F. Stravinsky. In the spiritual works of genius composer of the XX century the works started in 1948 and 1966, separated from each other for almost twenty years, but they are firmly connected to each other by Catholic tradition. So, in the spiritual work of the author formed a kind of “Catholic arch”, which brings together a very important and a major reservoir of spiritual works of the late period. Appeal to Catholic composer genre predetermined his author's beliefs. He has repeatedly noted in the “Chronicle”, “Dialogue” and the letters that he was attracted by the spiritual music, which is not inferior to the beginning of instrumental vocal. And, in spite of the orthodox origins, the creative aspirations of the author, especially in the later period, associated with the traditions and canons of Catholic music. The article presents the results of a comparative study of spiritual works of the composer - the Mass and the Requiem. The purpose of this study - to analyze these works from the perspective of the evolution of the author's style of Stravinsky. Copyright management of the canonical model of the Catholic liturgical genre in the first and in the second case are completely different alternative solutions. As indicators of the intensity of manifestation of the author's beginning to work with the Catholic Church model is the comparative analysis of the primary sources of the composer with the text of the Mass and the Requiem, a musical interpretation of the content and performing the compositions of these works. The results of research showed the author's alternative to the traditional foundations of the Church of the genre. Strict observance of the liturgical canons of the genre at the initial stage of spiritual and musical way in the Mass gave way to the free interpretation of the church in the last model spiritual opus - “Funeral songs”.
