Collection of photographic negatives of Alexander Vasilyevich Adrianov in the Tomsk Regional Museum

Alexander Vasilyevich Adrianov has left a noticeable mark in intellectual and public life of Siberia of the late 19th - early 20th century as archeologist, ethnographer, journalist, public figure, one of ideologists of the Siberian regionalism. In the 1950s the son of the researcher handed over more than 150 photographic negatives to the Tomsk regional museum of local lore. The footage was taken during a scientific and official travel of A. Andrianov in Siberia: Narym territory (1880s) and Zmeinogorsky district of Tomsk province (1906, 1910); the Semipalatinsk region (1906, 1911); Irkutsk province (1900-1901); the Minusinsk district (1890, 1897-1898, 1903, 1907, 1909, 1912, 1915), Usinskiy frontier district (1897, 1910, 1915), Uriankhayskiy territory (now Tuva; 1916) the Yenisei province. In a collection it is possible to allocate several theme groups. The camera of scientist recorded different types of nature (collected more than 20). Most of this series is panoramic photos of mountain rivers in the south of Eastern Siberia, especially the Mana River (1903, 13 pcs.). In this area Adrianov explored ancient rock paintings. Images of petroglyphs in the collection are rare, as well as photos of ancient Siberian burial mounds, which became object of archaeological research by Adrianov. Photos archaeological excavations in the collection are not available. Ethnography of peoples of the North and Central Asia (“Ostyaks”, Khakas, Buryats, Kazakhs, Tuvinians) are represented by more numerous photos. Negatives captured the image of different ethnic groups, the characteristic features of their dwelling, outbuildings etc. Of particular interest are images of gravestones of the Kazakh necropolis (near the Urunhai River), Khakass shaman in vestments, episodes of ritual with the sacrifice of a horse (Buryats). Collection contains photos of different settlements the Asiatic Russia. Views of the Minusinsk district of the Yenisei province prevail over others. At that photographer was interested not only Siberian olden time, but also new features in life of region (construction of railway, for example). The set of photos captured distilleries of the Yenisei province and the gold mines at its border areas, which are economic mastered Russian. The collection has a historical, cultural, scientific value. It adds to sources set of history and ethnography of the Siberia, its adjoining areas, their research history in the late XIX - early XX century. It also provides additional material to the biography of A.V. Andrianov, who is one of recognized researchers of the Central Asia, defender of interests of its ethnic minorities.
