Lost cult structures of the city of Pavlodar end XIX - the beginning of XX century

Numerous State programs for the revival of national culture “Mangilik Yel”, “Rukhani Zhangyr”, “7 facets of the Great Steppe”, adopted in the 21st century in the Republic of Kazakhstan, show the importance of preserving the national cultural heritage, including monuments of religious architecture that represent historical and cultural, architectural and artistic value, which reveals the relevance of the problem raised in the study. The purpose of this study is to identify the stylistic features and specifics of the architectural and planning decisions of the lost Orthodox churches of the city of Pavlodar based on an analysis of the design traditions of religious buildings in Russia. To achieve the goal of the study, the following methods were used: historical, art analysis. Based on the study of materials of the Central State Archive of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the years of building Orthodox churches in Pavlodar are revealed. In the process of studying photographs taken by D.P. Bagaev, he conducted an art analysis of architectural features (space-planning solutions, styling, architectural plastics) of four Orthodox churches in Pavlodar, built in the late XIX - early XX centuries. This is the wooden church of Flora and Lavra and three brick ones - Vladimir Cathedral, Voskresenskaya Cemetery Church and Holy Trinity Cathedral. Revealing the specifics of the compositions of the lost religious buildings of the city of Pavlodar, the author show the continuity of their traditions of architectural development of Russia of the XIX -early XX century. During the construction of the Orthodox churches of Pavlodar, the techniques of the national Russian style were combined with the use of “brick” elements, the hallmark of which was the replacement of stucco decorations and stucco with unlined brick decor. The author, analyzing photographic sources and archival materials, reveal such architectural signs of the “Russian style” as: spatial structure, five-domed, onion-shaped domes, keel-shaped arches of the third tier, bell towers, which were the basis for the construction and architectural planning of the Orthodox churches of Pavlodar at the end of XIX - early 20th century. The study confirms the idea that architecture, as a form of art, is an expression of the spirituality of the people.
