Ways of effective library collaboration in creating and using a full-text resource

Nowadays dynamic implementation of automated technologies in librarian practice and especially development of reference and search apparatus electronics is noticed. Except of electronic catalogues and own funds databases creation libraries take part in formation of central and distributed catalogues within corporative librarian systems of various levels. Digitization of libraries funds and granting access to it for remote users is one of the promising areas. Federal and local integrative projects directed on integration of libraries full-text resources are being set up in order to avoid doubling of libraries expenses on digitization. Despite active development of these projects large quantity of paper information storage media stored in libraries aren't digitized. Many libraries have no opportunity not only to take part in full-text resource creation but also to create electronic catalog because of primary stage of their automation level. Solution of this problem is possible in case of libraries work in unified storage and information dissemination system providing efficiency and fullness of users informational needs satisfaction. The purpose of our research is to identify ways in which libraries can effectively interact to create a full-text resource. Successful projects on integration of digitized funds of Russian libraries were considered in the course of our research. Libraries of the SB Russian Academy of Sciences research institutions were questioned in order to determine the current state of their reference and search capabilities. The questioning showed that 14% of libraries keep only card catalogs because they can't afford purchase a system of library automation, 58% of libraries in their electronic catalogs give incomplete information about their funds and include mainly on new recent years information. Therefore full information about the availability of book publications in libraries and full texts of books are not available to the remote user. In respect of existing situation directions of development of effective interaction of libraries of research institutions of the SB Russian Academy of Sciences on creation of full-text resource for libraries with different level of automation are proposed: - for libraries that not keeping an electronic catalog; - for libraries keeping an electronic catalog without using the IRBIS library automation system; - for libraries whose electronic catalogs contain incomplete information about their funds; - for libraries whose electronic catalogs contain complete information about their funds. It was concluded that libraries need professional support from the Unified Automation Center of GPNTB of the SB Russian Academy of Sciences and central libraries of scientific centers to increase the efficiency of use of reference aid and library collections. Areas of support: digitization of documents from the library collection and organization of storage of digital copies, organization and maintenance of the electronic catalogue of the library, presentation of information on library collections in the Union catalog of the SB Russian Academy of Sciences research institutions, possibility of borrowing records from the Union catalog, organization of access of remote users to fulltext resources of libraries.
