Piligrimage relics of the Holy Land of the late XIX – early XX centuries as objects of artistic heritage: (based on the materials of collections of orthodox churches and private collections of residents of Siberia)

The study of such a phenomenon in Russian culture as pilgrimage to Palestine at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries has not lost its relevance over the past decades. The traditions of “going to the Holy Land” have deep roots. Descriptions of some trips have entered the world book heritage. Modern researchers pay special attention to the monuments of material culture that are directly related to this phenomenon: icon images made in various techniques, oral and written testimonies, printed images. Scientists consider the role of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society in the dissemination of lithographs. The preserved monuments bear witness not only to a certain event, but also to a special attitude towards the Holy Land among the population of Russia for more than a hundred years. The purpose of the work is to identify the diversity of fine art monuments associated with the Russian pilgrimage to Palestine at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries on the territory of the Altai Territory. Studying this issue on a nationwide scale, researchers note the circulation and preservation of such monuments as an important factor in determining their significance. The article provides an analysis of the plot and iconographic fullness of the presented works, as well as the stylistic characteristics of the written images. Among the identified compositions, the theme of the Passion of Christ is widely represented. This content is due to the context of pilgrimage sites, which are closely related to the actual stay of pilgrims at the sites of the suffering of Christ and His Resurrection. Various versions of the interpretation of the iconography of the “Resurrection of Christ” are described. The relationship between composition and text on lithographic images is determined. Stylistic, iconographic and compositional analysis of paintings, as well as identification of signatures on paintings is a necessary component of attribution of a group of icons with a similar place of origin. The identification of individual photographs of views of Jerusalem and Palestine are of interest as documentary sources and works of art of photography of the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. The article presents the facts of the special veneration of these iconographic images and historical monuments Most of the considered relics are in the temple collections of the Altai Territory and were identified by the author during scientific expeditions.
