Cultural capital in the world of global diversity: ideas and concepts

Modern culture is at a turning point: the era associated with the dominance of the Western monoculture is ending, and another one is beginning, caused by the assertion of the principle of cultural diversity and the formation of a multipolar world. The emerging culture opens up prospects for sustainable development of the world community based on equal interaction of global and local cultures, which allows for the creation of new value foundations for the development of the world community, a new ethic and ensures the transition to a socio-cultural organization based on the principles of cultural diversity and equality of different cultures. The cross-cultural or multicultural version of globalization is being updated, based on the principles of cultural diversity and equality in the process of world development. Multicultural globalization has a tolerant and non-repressive form, this was influenced by the growth of the level of existential security, and multiculturalism has become a response to cultural and religious diversity, which is associated with the policy of identity, difference and recognition. The key is mutual understanding and acceptance of the Other, the different, having other identification features, in connection with which one of the theoretical sources of cross-cultural and multicultural globalization is the philosophy of dialogue. Over the past century, cultural values have changed, and generations that grew up in existential security set self-expression, environmental quality, etc. as goals. As a result of cultural shifts, there is a transition from material values to post-materialistic ones, which provides the basis for the formation of an environment that promotes cultural and religious diversity. Nevertheless, there are trends of growing support for xenophobic, populist and authoritarian movements even in economically successful countries, where great importance was attached to supporting minorities. Several decades of existential security preceded the cultural rollback. Analyzing the current situation of the evolution of cultural capital in the world of global diversity, we can assume that the principles of cross-cultural dialogue and multiculturalism are the key to peaceful dialogue between different societies. Of course, there will always be differences that cause contradictions, but as such an indicator of cultural capital as the radius of identification and trust grows, the opportunity will arise to build a peaceful dialogue and understanding, cooperation while preserving the cultural identity of both sides. The authors declare no conflicts of interests.
