The Orthodox periodical press in cultural and scientific Russian life (the second half XIX - beginning ХХ centuries)

This articleis devoted consideration the role and a place of the orthodox periodical press of the middle XIX -beginnings ХХ in cultural and scientific Russian life.Features and the basic directions of activity of church periodicals, such as «Christian reading»,«Church bulletin», «Theological bulletin», «Orthodox interlocutor», «Wanderer» and others are characterised.Publishing houses kept the readers informed modern events in a public and cultural life. Theywere engaged in the publication and distribution of proceedings of historians and theologians; someliterary monuments of Old Russian; spiritual poetry and prose. Orthodox periodicals had left an outstandingtrace in distribution of scientific knowledge, increase of cultural level of a reader's audience.
