From two cultures to one. A short note on the legacyof the science-humanities debate
Thispaper revisits the science-humanities debate half a century after the publication ofC. P. Snows famous booklet: The two cultures and the scientific revolution. Itargues that the two cultures have many different features, but that they are neitherincommensurable nor necessarily hostile. Their mutual tension is rather, aspointed out by Italian philosopher Giulio Preti, a vital feature of Western civilization, enabling multiple kinds of discourse to coexist around a common core ofvalues.
