The portraits by G. Hippius from the Stroganov library: the creation history(to the problem statement)
The collection of portraits by G. Hippius published in the 1st halfof the 19th century under the title The contemporaries. The collection of lithographicportraits of state officials, writers and artists living in Russia nowadays…..is examined in the article. The author while investigating the creationhistory of the collection, basing on the analysis of artists course of life and hiscreative development, reveals a number of problems to study, which deal with thedefining of time of collection creation, ascertainment of the customer, examiningthe funding source of the artists work and the edition process, and also with theappearance of this collection of portraits in the ancestral Stroganov library.
