Doxography Tertullian and its significance for the history of natural science. Part II

The article is devoted to the study of the circumstances of the accumulation of medical data in the later period - until the scientific revolution of the XVII century. In the center of the analysis of examination questions: why the pagan conceptions of Galen's philosophy and medicine were positively received by the new Christian world . First of all, it should be noted that the answer to this question lies in the analysis of the religious and philosophical system proposed by the early Christian thought. This system was a synthesis of Christian theology and Greek philosophy, originating fathers of the Christian Church II - III centuries. In this article the author's task is to make detailed consideration of the contribution of one of the early Christian writers to conduct a comprehensive analysis of its relationship to the natural sciences in general and medicine in particular. For a start it is important to understand that due to the current trends in the scientific literature of the first half of the XX century, this analysis was not carried out (and could not be carried out ) by the dominance of the western history up to the 80- ies of XX century the «conflict theory» of science and religion. The authors of this theory were D. Draper, "History of the Conflict between Religion and Science" and Ellen G. White "The history of the war between science and theology". The second important historiographical dominant was the progressive concept of science, which is also currently being revised. Under this approach, many historical examples skillfully adjust to the Western concept . It is possible to overcome these theses leading western end of the XX century, scientists turn to an impartial analysis of the relationship of Christianity to science in the period II - III centuries. Since the late 90s of the XX century the dominant historiography was the concept of a "complicated relationship ", which involves different types of communication - from conflict to synergy - at various stages of history. In this article we would like to pay attention to an important representative of the patristic, whose views on the subject of interest we would like to make out - Tertullian. Priori adherence to the "theory of conflict" led to the selective quoting works of Tertullian. Tertullian is often accused of prejudice against science. However, the key question is the following: is it possible to fully consider the point of view of Tertullian's representative in relation to Christian thought II - III centuries . On this question we have to give a negative answer. In this paper we attempt to analyze in detail the work as Tertullian, bringing all possible excerpts from them regarding his relationship to science.
