Russian Culture Day in the limitrophe states in 1924-1939

The article looks into the issue of the necessity for the emergence and the further holding of the so-called Russian Culture Day not only in the limitrophe states, but also in the European countries, which used to be one of the most beloved celebrations for the Russian migrants and was top three most important ones along with The Russian Child's Day and Intransigence Day. The article analyses the establishment and geographical expansion of the celebration in the recipient countries, including the residences of the Russian-speaking native-born populace; points out the general and particular features of its establishment, specific not only to the limitrophe states, but also to the European countries in general. The author registers the increase in significance of the celebration in a relatively short period of time. However, she also points out the problems the facilitators faced at the stage of its planning in some country or another, be it the disagreements while fixing a date (considering the one officially fixed by the Executive Board of the Russian Culture Day) or the venues. Besides, the author looks into the attitude towards the Russian Culture Day not only of the Russian-speaking population, but also of the local governments in the limitrophe states, as well as their attitude towards the provision of assistance during the celebration events management and in the event of disagreements between the celebration facilitators and the local administration or representatives of the other nationalities. Moreover, the author analyses the festive programs commemorating the Russian Culture Day, points out the general and particular features of their facilitating. The author comes to the conclusion that the celebration played an important part in the lives of the Russian-speaking population. First of all, it helped to fight against growing denationalization of the younger generation, encultur-ating them. Secondly, it united the emigration. Besides, this day the most part of the proceeds was sent to the disposal of the Migrants' Charity Organizations collected from the various charitable lotteries and sales. However, the celebration lacked unity not only among the recipient countries, but also within the states. For instance, in Poland the Russian Сulture Day was celebrated on different days in various areas, and very often it had isolated nature, and the event program wasn't coordinated with the Central organizations. The author based the present treatise on the documents of the so-called Prague City archives housed in the State Archive of the Russian Federation as well as the periodicals published by the migrants in the Inter-War period.
