Problems and prospects of correlation of archival documents and the archaeological material (in the Umrevinsk stockaded town)
The Umrevinsk Stockaded Town was founded in 1703. It is situated in the Moshkovsk District of the Novosibirsk Region, in 3,1 kilometers to the north-west of the Umreva Village, on the left bank of the Umreva River, at the place where the latter falls into the Ob River. The written sources of that time, as a rule, are either fragmentary or too chary of words for one to obtain the complete notion about the process of advancement and security of the new territories of the Russian State. That is why the archaeological data are, perhaps, most authentic source for the study of spreading the Russian population's culture in the south of Western Siberia. The absence of settlements on the territory of the Umrevinsk Stockaded Town, in later periods, led to natural conservation of the cultural layer of the first half of the XVIIIth century. Such concurrence of circumstances allows to consider this populated area as the standard archaeological site of the period of development of Siberia by the Russians, as the one which has a great significance for the whole Siberian Region. In the process of archaeological researches carried out in 2000, 2002-2004 years, the foundation of the south-western embankment tower of the Umrevinsk Stockaded Town, as well as the western, northern and southern palings were revealed. The geophysical and dendro-chronological prospecting works at this place open the new prospects for obtaining interesting information. In the central section of the Umrevinsk Stockaded Town, fallen to pieces construction of brick was revealed. The latter represented itself remains of one of the early Russian stove in the south of Western Siberia. The stove was placed inside of the wooden house of a clerk. These house and stove, on the ground of numismatic finds (over 20 coins - copecks, money, quarter-copeck pieces), one may date from the first half of the XVIII century. In the 90-s of the same century, this permanent defensive work vanished from sight in consequence of conflagration. As part of the discussion of the question of interrelations of written and archaeological sources on an example of the Umrevinsk Stockaded Town we consider problems and prospects of correlation of archival documents, which are represented by previously unexplored cases of the funds of Novosibirsk Region State Archive, and the archaeological material, which is presented by the results of field researches of the Stockaded Town from 2000 to 2015. During the discussion of the question of self-sufficiency of the two types of historical sources we describe the information potential of archival document as part of the archaeological research.
