Publications of A.V. Adrianov in the newspaper «Siberian life» during the revolution 1917 year and the Civil war

The article elaborates on the journalistic activities of Alexander V. Adrianov during the revolution and the Russian Civil War. A.V. Adrianov is an outstanding researcher of the history and culture of North and Central Asia, social activist and educator, editor of the "Sibirskaya gazeta" ("Siberian Newspaper") and the "Sibirskaya Zhizn" ("Siberian Life"). From March 1917 to December 1919 he was the editor of the "Siberian Life" newspaper. Adrianov influenced the political direction of the "Siberian life". A.V. Adrianov published not less than 155 articles. The analysis of the journalistic activities of A.V. Adrianov is based on methods of thematic and symbolic content analysis. The semantic units of the thematic analysis are a lexical markers, which reflect the political, cultural, education, military, social, economic, archaeological and ethnographic fields. The units of the symbolic analysis are personalities. The analysis of publications has proved that the articles by A.V. Adrianov reflected different issues. However, the dominant theme was the political life of the society. At the beginning of 1917, A.V. Adrianov turned to the following themes: the February Revolution, the monarchy and the Interim Government. But after the October Revolution the dominant theme became the struggle against the Bolsheviks. A.V. Adrianov started to draw attention to issues relating to the organization and functioning of the anti-Bolshevik government bodies. This change also affected the content of his articles, which conveyed military themes then. The main topic of his articles was the Civil War. More than that, in 1919 the author has published much fewer articles on social and political issues than during the revolutionary 1917. This seems logical, as the newspaper periodicals were an indicator of political activity by the society, which has decreased significantly under the Kolchak's government. A significant part of the articles that were published covered the issues of culture and education. Social and economic issues drew much less of A.V. Adrianov's attention. Given the fact that these problems depended on the political situation in the country, their occurrence depended on the political themes. Despite the fact that in 1917-1919 A.V. Adrianov fully dedicated his time to social and political activities, in 1917 he published several articles on ethnography and archaeology. The last issue of the newspaper "Siberian Life" was published in December 1919. The newspaper was closed after the Soviet rule was restored in Tomsk. By the decision of Tomsk Extraordinary Commission to Combat Counter-Revolution he was executed by shooting at the beginning of March, 1920.
