Vasily Markovich Florinsky and the first Siberian University in Tomsk
The purpose of this article is to analyze the contribution of V.M. Florinsky in the opening of the Siberian University in Tomsk. The article reveals the role of V.M. Florinsky in solving issues related to the choice of the city for the future of the Siberian University, the creation of drawings and estimates, the choice of the form of organization of construction works, as well as the search for sources of financing. The object of the study is the history of the organization of the Imperial Tomsk University, and the subject is the contribution of V.M. Florinsky in the organization of the construction of the Siberian University in the design of the university. To solve the problem, the authors of the article analyzed documents stored in the State Archives of the Tomsk Region, the Department of Manuscripts and Book Monuments of the Tomsk State University Scientific Library, and also in the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan in the V.M. Florinsky. Based on this material were identified the main stages that preceded the organization of the Siberian University. The activity of V.M. Florinsky throughout the preparatory period. The contribution of V.M. Florinsky in the creation of the Siberian University with the activities of others who participated in the organization of the Siberian University. As a result, the authors of the study came to a conclusion about the key role of V.M. Florinsky in the organization of the construction of the Imperial Tomsk University. So, being a member of the Ministry of Public Education, he, first, took part in the preparation of papers with a request for the opening of a university in Siberia. Secondly, he personally participated in the commission to determine the university city, defending the interests of Tomsk in this matter. Thirdly, V.M. Florinsky was engaged in the development of drawings of the Siberian University, and also took part in determining the method of organizing construction works, so that in the course of construction work, the amount of 1,220,567 rubles, 51,5 cop., It was possible to save 448 133 rubles. 74.6 kopeks. Fourth, becoming in 1880 a member of the Construction Committee of the Ministry of Education, he supervised the erection of the university. Despite the fact that since 1878 he was an ordinary professor at the Kazan Imperial University, he visited Tomsk annually for spring and summer construction work, and then in the autumn traveled to Petersburg with a report on the work done by the Construction Committee. Thus, he maintained a permanent link between the Construction Committee in Tomsk and the Minister of Education in St. Petersburg. Fifth, having headed the West Siberian educational district in 1885, V.M. Florinsky was engaged in the selection of the faculty of the future university, and after the opening of the Imperial Tomsk University very closely participated in its activities until departure from Tomsk in 1898.
