A.V. Kolchak government's crisis in the autumn of 1919 covered by the New York Times
The periodical press is one of the main historical sources, including the study of the history of the Civil War and intervention in Russia. However, the American press of this period is currently not sufficiently used by Russian researchers. The events of the Civil War and intervention in Russia were widely reflected in the American press, including The New York Times newspaper. The materials of the newspaper are of a great interest for understanding the "American" point of view on those events, they provide an opportunity for more complete reconstruction of this period of Russian history. This is very important for clarifying the reasons for the beginning of foreign intervention, its progress and completion. The article discusses how the American daily newspaper The New York Times covered a turning point in the history of the Civil War and intervention in Russia - the period of the crisis of the admiral A.V. Kolchak's Omsk government. The main leitmotif of most publications was the call to provide assistance to the Kolchak government despite its failures at the front. From the end of the summer - the beginning of the autumn of 1919, the newspaper from issue to issue published articles with characteristic headlines devoted to the problem of delaying the official recognition of the Kolchak's government by the Allies. There was an attempt to maintain an optimistic tone, despite the obvious haste retreat of Kolchak's armies. During the retrea t of Kolchak's troops in September 1919, the American press repeatedly published articles and reports that contained a critical assessment of the situation around the recognition of the Omsk government. Even in October - November 1919, the American press continued to convince readers that the positions of the government of admiral A.V. Kolchak is still resistant. Publications about the intensification of the allied aid to Kolchak began to appear. However, with the arrival of information about the seizure of Omsk by the Bolsheviks, publications in The New York Times became more and more pessimistic and critical. The author concluded that the American press saw the main reason for the failure of the anti-Bolshevik movement in Siberia and the Far East in the lack of allied help.
