The development of relations between China and the United States under the administration of D. Trump from the position of the United States
The policy of the United States of America regarding the People's Republic of China has changed most drastically since the beginning of Donald Trump's presidential term in 2017. His foreign policy course, the slogan of which is “America first” has taken on a rather rigid and principled character with respect to China. According to the National Security Strategy, the main goal of America is to achieve its own national interests in cooperation with its partners. Regarding the economy, Trump, being a successful businessman for a long time, sets the task to conclude the most profitable deals for his country. The economic relations with China, according to the ideas of the current US President and his Administration, are dishonest and unequal. Trump is convinced that China's growth is mostly due to damage to American manufacturing interests on account of “nonequivalence in trade that exceeds half a trillion US dollars.” It was particularly the desire to make relations with China fairer that became one of the main leitmotifs of Trump's administration policy. At the same time, it is important to highlight the fact that the two states are in close connection with each other and are actually interdependent, as a result of which a special term “Chimerica” (the combination of the names of two states - China and America) has occured. This means that the conflict does not threaten a complete rupture of relations, but it will have serious consequences for both parties. The purpose of this work is to study and characterize the position of the United States of America in relation to the People's Republic of China during the presidential term of Donald Trump. To achieve the goal, an analysis of speeches by official representatives of the Presidential Administration, as well as published documents has been made. As a result of studying these materials, it was possible to identify and describe the main methods of "dishonest economic activity" of China. Moreover, to understand the general picture, it is necessary to analyze not only the position of the authorities, but also the attitude of ordinary US citizens to China. Surveys conducted in the United States by Pew Research ascertained the main reasons for the concern of the American population regarding the PRC. These include primarily the economic threat and the increasing threat of cybersecurity. The analysis of the results of surveys conducted in different years (2012, 2015, 2017, 2018) helped to establish the dynamics of changes in attitudes towards China.
