Personality of Yakov Abramovich Sher in the history of studying THE ROCK ART OF THE MIDDLE YENISEI

The article is devoted to a prominent Soviet and Russian researcher, archaeologist - Y.A. Sher. The article analyzes his biography, identifies the main stages of his scientific biography. Primarily the authors of the article consider the activity of Y.A. Sher as a researcher of rock art on the Middle Yenisei. Conventionally, the article is divided into two parts: Biography of the scientist. He was born on June 21, 1931 in the town of Chimkent. After graduating from school, in 1949 he entered the history department of the Kyrgyz State Pedagogical University. In his student years, he began to get involved in archeology. While studying at the university, he participated in the excavations lead by A.N. Bernshtam, A.P. Okladnikov, G.F. Debets. After graduating from the university, Y.A. Sher was sent to work as a teacher in a village school. However, he had to interrupt his teaching career, as he was drafted into the ranks of the Soviet army. After military service (1954-1957), he returned to the school and was appointed director of the seven-year Krasnofront school in the Ivanovo district of the Kyrgyz SSR. Scientific activity. While studying in graduate school, Y.A. Sher was actively involved in expeditionary work. At the same time, he works at the Leningrad branch of the Institute of Archeology, where he has gone from a researcher to the head of the laboratory of archaeological technology. An important moment in the life of Y.A. Shera, as a researcher and scientist, was the period from 1963 - 1970, when he headed the Kamensky detachment of the Krasnoyarsk expedition. During these years he was searching for new approaches to the study of monuments of rock art, in fact, during these years Y.A. Sher laid the foundations for the future of petroglyphology. It was then that he develops and implements the principles of formalization in the archaeological source study. In 1985, at the invitation of the Head of the Department of Archeology, KemSU A.I. Martynova, Sher goes to work in Kemerovo and until 2012 has been working at Kemerovo State University. In the 80s - 90s monuments of the Minusinsk Basin: Oglakhty, Sukhanikha, Tepsey, Ust-Tuba, Kunya, Sulek, and others were investigated under his leadership. He published a unique series of corpus “Petroglyphs of Central Asia”. It was in KemSU that Yakov Abramovich teaching talent manifested itself. At the end of this article, it should be concluded that various people come to science, some for the realization of their personal interests, others remain for the purpose of further developing science, bringing something new, perfect, capable of facilitating the work of a scientist. Undoubtedly, such a figure is Yakov Abramovich Sher, who stands at the origins of Russian petroglyphology. Y.A. Sher made a significant contribution to the study of the rock art of the Middle Yenisei. New ways of indexing, copying and conservation of petroglyphs of this region were developed and introduced, which allowed preserving many of them to this day.
