Philological and historical analysis of the little-studied problems of the Russian regions of the early twentieth century. Review of the book by Voronin D.V. and Martynenko Yu. A. “The First World War in the fate of the tomichi”. Tomsk: Grafika, 2019. 128 p.
The purpose of the work: To familiarize scientists and the public with the new work of Siberian historians dedicated to their fellow countrymen who participated in the First World War. To conduct a historical and philological analysis of the work. To identify the scientific value of the monograph. Sources: The source for writing the review was the monograph itself by D.V. Voronin and Yu.A. Martynenko. In addition, the work uses scientific publications similar in subject to the peer-reviewed monograph, specialized sites dedicated to the participants of the war. The monograph by D.V. Voronin and Yu.A. Martynenko "The First World War in the fate of the Tomichi" was published in 2019 in Tomsk, and is devoted to the participation of residents of the Tomsk province in the war. The authors took a "dualistic" approach to the analysis of the material used for scientific work. An extraordinary approach to the analysis of historical material can attract great interest to the work. D.V. Voronina and Yu.A. Martynenko, commenting on certain historical processes of a century ago, use the facts of later stages of history. By including new facts in the text of the monograph, which make it possible to analyze the problem from modern positions, the authors remain on the principles of historicism, and at the same time can fully express their ideas about the past. The authors chose not only the activities of Siberians during the First World War as objects of research. The book contains many documents on everyday life of people who lived in the rear. It is interesting to consider the authors' comments about the call for the rear work of the non-Russian population of the region (Kazakhs, Mongols, Chinese) in conditions when this category of the population was not adapted to such activities. The data on the involvement of prisoners of war in the economic life of the Tomsk province, who tried to replace the men who had gone to the front, can be considered valuable. The philological analysis of business documents is quite interesting. Various documents from the beginning of the twentieth century have been deposited in Tomsk archives. As now, a hundred years ago, the content of business documents was based on law and could serve as the subject of a direct legal assessment of the actions of the subject and object of power. The work done by the authors and researchers is of great lasting importance. It shows well that historical memory concerns every person, regardless of what he did and what place he occupied in the hierarchy of society. As a wish, we can only invite the authors to continue their noble activities. Contribution of the authors: the authors contributed equally to this article. The authors declare no conflicts of interests.
