Historians about the historian: in memory of Lydia Nikolaevna Korneva, doctor of historical sciences, professor of Kemerovo State University
The article is dedicated to the memory of Lidia Nikolaevna Korneva, Professor of Kemerovo University. She was born in 1943, in the city of Stalinsk (now Novokuznetsk) in the Kemerovo region. After graduating from the high school, she studied at the Faculty of History and Philology of Tomsk State University. In 1974 she defended her PhD thesis on the historiography of National Socialism in the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1979, Lidia Nikolaevna was invited to work at the Department of World History of Kemerovo State University (KemSU). Thanks to the initiatives of professor Yu. V. Galaktionov and L. N. Korneva the department acquired the status of a new Siberian-German research center in the region. In 1999, on the basis of KemSU, the West Siberian Center for German Studies (WSCGS) was established. L. N. Korneva was one of the organizers and participants of its numerous scientific events. In her speeches on historiography of Germany, she noted the emergence of new trends, rethinking, discussions (such as the “dispute of historians”), the actualization of the Holocaust, the influence of the end of the Cold War on historical science of Germany, the disintegration of the USSR. Korneva L. N. gave competent assessments of the reasons for the strengthening of revisionist tendencies in the historiography of National Socialism. An important place in her scientific work was occupied by the study of the specifics of the historiography of National Socialism in the GDR. She participated in the discussions about the identity and differences of the totalitarian regimes of the ХХ century. The most significant project of the West Siberian Center for German Studies was a publishing of a 3-volume textbook about the history of Germany. The most significant project that German historians of Western Siberia managed to implement was the publication of a 3-volume textbook on the history of Germany. L. N. Korneva was not only one of the authors of the textbook, but also the executive editor of the third volume. In 2007 Lidia Nikolaevna defended her doctoral thesis. In the 2000s, she was a successful supervisor of 6 postgraduate students. From 2005, Lidia Nikolaevna until October 2020 headed the Under her leadership the textbook "Social Policy and the Social State in Germany" was published in 2014.Under her leadership, in 2014, the textbook "Social Policy and the Welfare State in Germany" (455 pages) was published. The latest events held by L. N. Korneva as Chairman of WSCGS were the publication of the 9th edition of "German Research in Siberia" and an international conference in November 2018 dedicated to the memory of Professor Bonvec, a German colleague, friend and co-founder of WSCGS. L. N. Korneva was a highly qualified teacher and had a broad erudition. The life of Lydia Nikolaevna Korneva ended on October 26, 2020. With her departure WSCGS also ceased to exist but it Thanks to this organization, the first twenty years of the 21st century will remain in the memory of many Russian scientists as the time of the rise of German studies in Siberia.Lidia Nikolaevna Korneva also made her contribution to this rise.
