Public diplomacy is a destructive instrument of influence of Western countries on the states of the post-Soviet space: the example of the Republic of Moldova

Based on data from domestic and foreign sources, the article analyzes the tools of public diplomacy of Western countries in the Republic of Moldova, its mechanisms and consequences. Its effectiveness is assessed in terms of its long-term impact on the country's domestic policy and international relations. The purpose of the study is to analyze the tools of public diplomacy of Western countries in the Republic of Moldova, its mechanisms and consequences. Its effectiveness is assessed in terms of its long-term impact on the country's domestic policy and international relations. The article assumes the solution of the following tasks to achieve the goal: 1) analyze the tools of public diplomacy in Western countries; 2) identify the destructive potential of public diplomacy; 3) to determine the degree of influence of Western countries and foundations on the political system of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, studying the mechanisms of public diplomacy in Western countries not only reveals the destructive potential of public diplomacy, but also suggests approaches to minimizing its negative consequences for the states under geopolitical pressure. From a methodological point of view, the phenomenon of public diplomacy in Western countries as a destructive element of influence on the political regimes of the post-Soviet countries can be studied on the basis of a comparative analysis using foreign and domestic scientific literature, as well as official statements by government representatives. In addition, the theoretical and methodological basis of public diplomacy helps to reveal the main characteristics and ways of influence of public diplomacy in the Republic of Moldova. Conclusions: the study of public diplomacy as a destructive instrument of influence of Western countries on the states of the post-Soviet space allows us to identify the main trends, processes, patterns that determined the development of the Republic of Moldova, provides an opportunity to re-imagine and understand the opposite side of public diplomacy as a tool of soft power in Western countries.
