Scientific conference “The Slavic World: Responding to New Challenges” (2025)

The paper informs about the 9th All-Russian scientific conference with international participation «The Slavic World: Responding to New Challenges», which took place in Tomsk State University during October 9-10, 2025. The event has a traditional disposition and is organized by Faculty of Historical and Political Studies joint with International Historical Journal «Rusin». The conference’s main aim is to serve as the panel for discussion past and present of Slavic peoples in the context of global matters and processes. Also, its constant concepts are interdisciplinarity, broad thematic patterns and flexibility of format (face-to-face or online). This year, three sessions finally included 38 reports, and totally some about 50 participants joined the event as speakers, discussants and attendees. They were the representatives of 24 educational and scientific institutions of Tomsk, Seversk, Novosibirsk, Sankt-Petersburg, Moscow, Tyumen, Kazan, Volgograd, Makhachkala, Belgorod, Arkhangelsk, Astana (Kazakhstan) and Kishinev (Moldova). Sessions were continuing for two days. The topics of speeches of the first session chronologically matched to the pre-Revolutionary period of Russian history. The second one chronologically covered the problematic of contemporary history till nowadays. In parallel there was the special section for young researches. All the reports form several key directions of Slavic studies: geopolitical transformations of past and present; media, ideological and self-identity practices; literary and historiographical traditions; scientific actors; socio-economic cases; personalities. The content of conference was featured by specificity, informativity, originality of source base or research optics. At the end of sessions participants made some reflections about the conference and noticed strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of further organization. The scientific results of the conference will be published as the series of articles in journals «Rusin», «Tomsk State University Journal» and «Tomsk State University Journal of History».
