The document and book stock of G.N. Potanin in the scientific library of Tomsk state university
The history of reception of Potanins document and book stock into Scientific Library is examined. This stock consistsof G.N. Potanins archive, his library and some memorial objects. The documents from the archive of Scientific Library of TSU, whichwere not published before, are cited, giving the ability to find out the details of the reception of this stock. These details are related to theshort-lived activity of the Institute of Siberia Research which was founded in Tomsk in January 1919. In February 1920 based on the decisionof the Institutes Library committee the library and other materials of G.N. Potanin were acquired. At the beginning of June the resolutionof Sibrevkom about closing this institute from July 1, 1920 came out, and after that Institures property and work entered Universitylibrary. According to the Act stored in the Archive of Scientific Library the final receipt date is December 21, 1920. In the end of 1922 thematerials of Siberian scientific group were handed over to the library, significantly increasing stock, received from the Institute. Receivedmaterials were highly appreciated in the university and attempts were made to save them in the form of separate stock. It was also suggestedto create The Department of Siberian figures or the cabinet in the name of G.N. Potanin on the basis of these materials. They failed to accomplishthis, furthermore, Potanins private library (3200 un. of issue) got scattered inside generic stock of university library. At presenttime the work for its reconstruction is carried out. For the archive, which was formed at the Institute only formally, the work in creating thenew inventory is carried out. The volume of archive is about 15700 sheets, its chronological limits - from 1849 to 1919. All materials in thearchive can be grouped into the following categories: documents related to the scientific and public work of G.N. Potanin (over 5600 sheets);materials of biographical nature (about 850 sheets); correspondence materials (2730 letters, telegrams, visiting cards from 597 correspondents);various graphic materials and drawings (over 600 sheets); documents, collected by Potanin (about 2000 sheets, primarily of ethnographicalsubjects); documents of Potanins relatives (about 2150 sheets). The great significance of this stock for further unbiased, devoid ofideological predilections, study of life, work and scientific heritage of G.N. Potanin is noted.
