Mission of «educated natives»: N.M. Yadrintsev and G.N. Potanin in the pages of «The Tomsk provincialgazette» (middle 1860th)

«The Tomsk provincial gazette» became the appreciable phenomenon in theSiberian publicism in the middle of 1860th. Due to participation of N.M. Yadrintsev and G.N. Potanin, the newspaper became an originalphenomenon of Siberian patriotism. More than 20 articles of regionalists were published for the period 1864-1865 in it. The authors «specialization» attracts our attention. N.M. Yadrintsev acted as the publicist-leader - «offensive» patriotic article belongs to him. That was thetime he began to consider Siberia a colony. He criticized the Siberian youth, which representatives «are not impregnated with general spiritof love of country... аlso remain cosmopolitans, destitute of their land». Therefore Siberia needs in «educated natives», which will be imbuedwith «the love of the place of birth and upbringing».Aspiration to unity of all Siberia was the special feature of the early Siberian patriotism («siberefilstvo»). From the very beginning oftheir activity regionalists realized from pan-Siberian point of view. Such approach was important because Siberia was the region simultaneously«Russian» and «non Russian». Local patriotism, original pan-Siberism, imagination about colony, aspiration to originality combined inarising Siberian self-consciousness. The key concept, from which N.M. Yadrintsev made a start was «civilization» means «common human».In this sense he is an original Siberian westerner. In 1860th Siberian patriotism had natural-scientific aspect. G.N. Potanin's approach to the aspect was interesting, he published an assay«Climate and people of Siberia», where marked continental character of the Siberian climate. In this case they used a new concept - «Euro-Asian continent». His conclusion was categorical: the climates «of these two next countries» (Russia and Siberia) «belong to the two oppositetypes», that is why Russia has more climatic relationship with Western Europe, rather than with Siberia. G.N. Potanin considered that asa result of influence of features of a climate «we should lose attributes of former race and get new features», form «the common mixed typethe inhabitant of Siberia». Still A.P. Shchapov paid attention, that the siberian population was the result of «tribal mixing russian tribe withasiatic tribes».N.M. Yadrintsev, after A.P. Shchapov, specified two anthropological and ethnographic parts of Siberia - primary Asian and secondaryEuropean. The active interaction between them was the result of formation of a new Siberian, euro-asiatic type. However, in terms ofcivilizationin, N.M. Yadrintsev was absolute europeist. Thus, both social-ideological, and natural-scientific publications in «Tomsk provincial gazette» in the middle of 1860th became, first, animportant stage in development of the Siberian public idea and, secondly, by original point of readout for the subsequent development ofregionalists ideas.
