Educational activity of missionary organizations in Viatka province In the second half of the XIX century - to beginning XX century
In the second half of the XIX century in the Russian Empire the policy on strengthening of positions of the Russian Orthodox Church was actively carried out. In this regard the direction in policy stirred up missionary activity of the orthodox church, and also active measures for return of Old Believers and sectarians under guardianship of the orthodox church were applied. In the second half of the XIX century in the Viatka province there is a network of the missionary organizations at local and state levels. The created organizations pursued the various aims, often solving them together. It gave the chance the most effective solution of the purposes put before them and tasks. The Viatka Committee of Orthodox missionary society opened on May 28, 1870 was one of such organizations. Increase of erudition of local population, creation and expansion of a network of schools and involvement in them of pupils, and also fight against sectarians were the most important activities of the Committee. In 1882 the Orthodox Palestinian Society which purposes were reduced to providing material resources of Society in Palestine and to education of local population of the province, development of their knowledge of the Holy Land was founded. Society extended literature on activity of Orthodox Society in the Holy Land, was engaged in publishing. Readings about the Holy Land were an integral part of work of each office. In 1882 activity of the Viatka Brotherhood of the St. Nikolay began. The brotherhood conducted work with dissenters, gentiles and sectarians. For preparation of new figures the Brotherhood contained the antidissenting-sectarian schools - man's and female, opened by the cathedral archpriest Stephane Kashmenskm and venerable Sergy. Educational activity of the Brotherhood was shown in opening of schools and providing with their teacher's structure. Priests and teachers of spiritual educational institutions of the city of Vyatka who also gave readings and talks with pupils here taught. This activity was directed on consolidation of the reeled positions of orthodox church and reduction of number of dissenters and sectarians. Thus, the religious and missionary organizations in the Viatka province - the Viatka Committee of Orthodox missionary society, the Brotherhood of St. Nikolay and the Viatka office of Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society - were engaged in educational activity for stabilization of a religious and political situation in the country.
