The Patriotic War of 1812: Collective Awards in the Russian Army
The article deals with collective awards in the Russian army during the war against Napoleon. The author writes about the awards already existing in 1812 and those which appeared later under the Emperors Alexander I and Nicholas I, namely a financial reward, foundation of the Military gallery in the Winter Palace, a shift of distinguished military units towards Grenadiers or the Guards, rewarding with a silver horn, presentation of a memorable standard, return of the lost regimental colours. He also describes decorations on military uniforms and for the first time speaks about the reduction of military service in the Guards.
