A study of high-density propellant combustion in the framework of a combined loading scheme
This paper examines the application of high-density propellants as part of propellant charge. The design and scheme of a ballistic test setup with a packaged model ballistic installation are presented. A series of experimental studies is carried out with the use of high-density propellants as part of the propellant charge. Thus, the basic ballistic characteristics of projectile launching are obtained. Using gas-dynamic methods developed at the Research Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics of Tomsk State University, the dispersion and combustion of a high-density propellant as part of a combined loading scheme are considered. A gas-dynamic analysis of the launching pattern is performed using the classical and combined loading schemes with the addition of high-density propellants. It is revealed that a portion of the high-density propellant is pushed out of the loading chamber into the accelerator channel following the projectile and burns in the space around the projectile. As a result, the pressure on the projectile bottom decreases at a slower rate. An increase in the muzzle velocity of the projectile is obtained when using a combined loading scheme compared with the classical scheme at the same maximum pressure on the bottom of the accelerator channel.
