Music world of Ostap Bender (the essay for the inattentive reader, but for the attentive musician)

In 1929 year in Moscow out of print novel "The Twelve Chairs". The authors of the novel were satirists and feletonisty Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov. The novel quickly gained immense popularity and still remain one of the most popular literary masterpiece of the national literature. Novel became one of the first works, which was vividly reflected the life of the young Soviet State. One of the interesting features of this novel, in our opinion, is the use of a large number of musical images and musical allusions and reminiscences that give a special mood and plot development vividly characterized by multifaceted musical life of Russia in the first third of the 20^th century. The article contains information about rare and neglected current musical works that the authors of the novel used to characterize the heroes of the novel. Musical images used in the novel, cover a large range of forms and genres, ranging from folk songs and lyric romanses to works of opera and symphonic music.
