S.M. Slonimsky: symphony poem "Petersburg visions"
The article deals with the peculiarities of interpretation of the genre of symphonic poem in the works of S. Slonimsky on the example of the poem "Petersburg visions" in the context of the interaction of the composer's method with the artistic techniques Of F. Dostoevsky. The analysis of the drama of the poem is based on a comparison with the original source: the story of F. Dostoevsky's "White nights". The analysis presents common themes for the composer and writer's work, among which the main one is the opposition of the spiritual world of man and the soulless, sometimes agressive surrounding world. For its implementation, the composer uses techniques that echo the writer's artistic techniques, for example, the musical grotesque in the work of S. Slonimsky and the theme of "buffoonery" in F. Dostoevsky, monologue as a form of revealing the inner world of the main character-a dreamer. The complexity of the idea of a symphonic poem determined an ambiguous interpretation of the musical form, a wide choice of means of musical expression: from micro-chromatics to decaphony, which generally characterizes the style of S. M. Slonimsky.
