Present essay is dedicated to aims and goals that great Russian enlightener, writer and publisher N.I. Novikov set to himself under the context of Freedom of Speech forming in Russia (the last third of the XVIII century). The essay gives illustrations of Novikov's reflection on moral and ethical concepts which lay at the heart of his works, also presents the problem and objectives for further research within the indicated theme.
