DIGITAL HUMANITIES: ANALYSIS OF MAIN TRENDS

The article examines the Digital humanities as one of the promising trends of development of the humanities in the digital age. Digital humanities development clearly shows that the computerization helps new synthesis of humanities and natural sciences, helps to overcome their alienation from each other. Digital humanities are considered in the project as an interdisciplinary field of research that combines methods and practice of humanitarian, social and computational sciences in order to explore the possibilities of the application and interpretation of new digital and information-communicational technologies in the humanities and education. The article presents the results of analysis of main trends of research study and development in the field of Digital humanities in Russia and in the world, model application of applied computer science methods for presentation of the conducted analysis result. According to the results of the collected and verified empirical data we identified 323 scientific and educational center (structure), positioning themselves in the field of digital humanities. Each center has a description that is reflected on the interactive map including the name, brief description of the activity, date of establishment, address, director’s name and contact data, and the link to the website of the center. The organizational forms and research infrastructure in the field of digital humanities in the world’s leading centers are studied. An initial analysis of the key trends in the development of humanities research and development in the field of Digital humanities are conducted. The quantitative analysis of the original data is performed; the results of the analysis and processing of empirical data are described and presented in graphical form; a prototype of an interactive map “World center of Digital humanities” is created. The study makes it possible to consider the digital humanities as an objective continuation and expansion of the traditional sphere of the humanities, but not a replacement or cancellation of traditional humanitarian requests, to identify promising trends in the development of digital humanities. Implementation of the project shows that mastery of digital tools and methods allows the researchers to expand the research base in the field of the humanities. The research results give the opportunity to determine the place of Digital humanities among numerous options of identification of the humanities, developing in the conditions of computerized society and / or on the basis of ICT (e-Humanities, e-Science, e-History, humanitarian informatics, etc.).
