INTERNET LINGUODIDACTICS AND BLENDED TEACHING: ESP AND TRANSLATION STUDIES WIKI-BASED GROUP PROJECT

The article exposes author’s blended online linguodidactical ideas and featured screenshots of online wiki site (Espsigrussia. URL: http://espsigrussia.pbworks.com/ ) application for the Group Project for collaborative ESP and Translation Studies teaching for non- linguistic students at higher education. It could be useful for higher education ESP teachers and translators looking for practical advice on collaborative and blended ways of language and translation mastering. The article covers blended online linguodidactics of the Group Project realized with National Research University - Higher School of Economics students from Management department in 2015. It follows number of the previous articles on wiki-based LMS pedagogical design and collaborative online ESP teaching. The article has also practical advice on how to organize and manage such online group work, and includes findings on the effictivness and main prociples of such blended online English language and Translation studies projects. Numerous screenshots of the project site pages in English illustrate the project outline. So it could be strongly recommended to study also the content on the screenshots. The project implemented ( as addition to the IELTS course) was a wiki-based Web 2.0. and multimedia LMS[13], and showed the possibility of efficient group communication, cooperation and output, as within two weeks 12 students decoded, posted on the wiki and edited themselves the full script to the selected authentic Youtube.com posted video clip with Noam Chomsky interview about 30 min long. [14] For the whole group of non linguists, combining online video comprehention listening with itd decoding in English in order to convert it to full script in writing was really challenging and awarding. As for translators, the assignments could be completed with consecutive or simultaneous interpreting of the whole video or/and the script written translation and video subtitling. The main idea was to train students or translators to successfully act and cooperate as a team both online and offline in class. Another goal supposed to demonstrate that translation didactics and linguodidactics could be also blended, combined and used in one project for any higher education language learners ( linguists and non linguists) with real speech studies in the focus of English language teaching. The article could be helpful for all educators of English or Translation Studies interested in blended online courses methods based on wiki sites or LMS and online linguodicatics practicing.
