Specificity of personality-environment interaction on the example of students from three Russian cities
High quality human capital is becoming the focus of modern ideas about the possible ways and strategies for further development of the Russian society. The capitalization of the human resource involves the presence of certain socio-cultural characteristics directly related to one's values and behavioural attitudes. In this regard, the issues of personality-environment interaction in the context of young people's personal and professional development are of particular relevance. The paper presents the results of comparative analysis of value orientations, features of environmental identity and parameters of personal potential in students of three Russian cities (Tomsk, Barnaul and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky). The research tools included a number of questionnaires aimed at studying subjective evaluation of basic values realizability in the urban environment and specific features of university youth's environmental identity, as well as their value orientations and parameters of personal potential. There was a certain imbalance between the expected (the significance of basic values) and the real (the realizability of basic values) in relation to the urban environment potential in the cities examined. According to representatives of the so-called provincial cities, such environmental conditions to a lesser degree allow them to achieve a desired level of material well-being, safety, health and to implement their goals. A possible explanation for this disparity between the degree of significance of these basic values for young people in the regions and the possibility of their realization in their sociocultural environments is the specificity of the socio-economic situation in Russia, when major financial and human resources are concentrated in megapolises. Analysis of the study participants' value orientations, specifics of their environmental identity and parameters of their personal potential showed a rather high potential of the urban environment in Tomsk in the context of students' personal and professional development that corresponds to its status of an educational and innovative centre of Siberia. The study results and research approaches can be the basis for psychological support programs to enhance modern youth's personal and professional development, taking into account the environmental specifics.
