Culture of subjectivity of student youth in social networks (on the example of the Kemerovo region – Kuzbass and the Republic of Tyva)

The aim of the article was to identify the features of the culture of subjectivity of student youth in social networks in the context of determining political preferences using the example of universities in two regions of Russia - the Kemerovo Region - Kuzbass and the Republic of Tyva. The authors of the article consider the culture of subjectivity of student youth within the framework of the theory of reflexive choice by V.A. Lefebvre and the theory of culture by L.N. Kogan, which allows analyzing the phenomenon under study from the perspective of assessing needs as a regulator of human behavior in social networks. At the same time, social networks act as a kind of a “bridge” between the subjectivity of an individual and cultural principles manifested in the assessment of ongoing socio-political events. The study is based on the results of a mass sociological survey and focus groups conducted in November-December 2024 among student youth of three universities of the Kemerovo Region - Kuzbass (Kemerovo State University, Kemerovo State Institute of Culture, Kuzbass State Agrarian University) and Tuva State University in the Republic of Tyva. The main attention is paid to the issues of demand for social networks in the culture of student youth, as well as the “involvement” of young people in the political agenda in social networks. It was revealed that the preferences of student youth in the use of social networks and instant messengers depend on the region of study and age characteristics. However, a targeted interest in political events and forms of civic activity using social networks is most characteristic of respondents aged 30-35. A number of features of the culture of subjectivity of student youth in social networks are highlighted, manifested in the preferences of student youth of universities in Kuzbass and Tuva. This is a high role of social networks in the daily activities of student youth, which is expressed in the multifunctional focus of their use, a high percentage of apoliticality among Tuvan youth in comparison with Kuzbass youth as a consequence of the dominance of traditional values in the culture, selectivity in young people’s demonstration of their preferences and moods in relation to political leaders and artists (bloggers) in social networks.
